The Role The Project Manager - Strategic Contracting will oversee Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul, and Upgrade (MRO&U) projects supporting Australian Defence Force Intelligence Surveillance Response (ISR) aircraft at RAAF Edinburgh. This role involves managing project timelines, budgets, and stakeholder relationships to improve supply chain resilience and to ensure future capability infrastructure needs are met. The role also includes the management of commercial activities with industry and partners related to current and future MRO&U activities related to the Edinburgh ISR Enterprise. Key responsibilities include coordinating with industry partners to enhance sovereign industrial capabilities, fostering relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and overseeing project governance over multiple facility upgrades. The project management role requires a focus on aerospace MRO&U, infrastructure management, and complex stakeholder engagement. The aim is to support Defence's strategic objectives by ensuring efficient MRO&U operations, prioritizing onshore maintenance, enhancing the sovereign supply chain, and facilitating collaboration with trusted partners to meet future demands. The current advertised vacancy is located in Edinburgh SA. However, remote work arrangements located out of Defence bases in Canberra, ACT or Williamtown, NSW may be considered for the successful applicants. A merit list will also be created during this recruitment process for any future vacancies in either SA, ACT, and NSW. The successful candidate will be required to undertake work on and be provided with technical information pertaining to Defence articles of United States of America (US) origin. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines / classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team Surveillance and Response Systems Program Office (SRSPO) ensures the availability and performance of highly complex surveillance and response airborne and related systems for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) – including the P-8A Poseidon. SRSPO also acquires and supports common Aeronautical Life Support Equipment (ALSE) used on air vehicles operated by the RAAF, Navy, and Army. We also support the MQ-4C Triton, a new remotely piloted high altitude long endurance aircraft system. Able to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with external stakeholders including Defence industry, military customers, and support agencies, to gain timely understanding of customer needs and their translation into capability requirements. Strong critical thinking skills to analyse complex problems, identify issues and develop effective solutions with a focus on safety, capability delivery and value for money. Familiarity with aerospace MRO&U policy and processes specifically as they relate to Australian Defence Industry. Familiarity with Defence commercial practices. Familiarity with Defence infrastructure projects. Self-motivated, well-organised and can manage various activities simultaneously and ensure business objectives and agreed deadlines are met.
