The Opportunity Are you passionate about guiding innovative student projects? The School of Engineering, Design & Built Environment has an exciting opportunity for a Student Project Coordinator to join their team! In this position, you will manage the day-to-day operations of various student-led project teams, including but not limited to Solar Car, FSAE, Robotics Club, Sustainable House, and the proposed Rocketry teams.As the Student Project Coordinator, you will work with minimal supervision, showing initiative and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth project management. Your responsibilities include coordinating purchasing, managing resources and budgets, fostering partnerships, ensuring compliance with WHS&W standards, and ensuring our student teams participate in competitions. You will manage our student flagship programs safely, working closely with Teaching and Research Technical Services (TRTS) and WHS&W staff at Western. Some of your key duties include evaluating workplaces, developing project-specific processes, maintaining the Chemwatch SDS database, updating Safety Data Sheets and SOPs, and conducting safety audits. You will also coordinate project administration, monitor progress, prepare reports, and support engagement activities.As part of this exciting role, every second year you will embark on an eight-week adventure traveling with the Western Sydney Solar team for the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Join the convoy with the team and camp under the stars of the beautiful Australian Outback as they travel from Kingswood to Coober Pedy, where they will test the car for two weeks before heading to Darwin for the final testing. The challenge kicks off in Darwin, traveling the 3,000 km to Adelaide. Experience camping with the team where the car finishes at the conclusion of each day before resuming the journey early the next morning. On arrival at Adelaide, enjoy the festivities and activities with the team before heading back to Kingswood campus.In the alternate year to the Solar challenge, you will embark on a journey through NSW rural towns. This weeklong Solar roadshow promotes STEM education and stimulates conversation around sustainable solutions to a wide audience while developing the team’s skill set and experiencing challenges ahead of the Bridgestone solar challenge the following year.In this role, you will also attend other student-led team competitions and events as required.This is a full-time ongoing position based at Kingswood Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University and events will be required.About You You hold tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Design or have equivalent relevant experience. You have extensive experience in coordinating all facets of project management, including administration, management, and support for student-led projects. Your high-level analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving skills are complemented by your ability to interpret policies, research issues, and provide sound advice. You possess excellent written communication skills, capable of crafting executive-level project reports and handling various correspondences. Your strong oral, interpersonal, and negotiation skills enable you to build effective relationships with key contacts. Additionally, you have demonstrated risk management and hazard identification skills, with a proven ability to complete risk assessments and Safe Operating Procedures documentation.Join us in empowering students to achieve their full potential and drive groundbreaking projects forward.Remuneration Package: HEW Level 7 $121,056 to $130,572 p.a.
