The Department of Clinical Biochemistry performs a large volume of tests from hospital and community settings including electrolytes, renal function, liver and cardiac enzymes, haematinics, tumour markers, hormones, blood gases, osmolality, autoimmune serology, protein electrophoresis, and therapeutic drug monitoring. In tandem with routine diagnostic Pathology, the Department undertakes research to improve patient outcomes and health through innovations in laboratory testing. About the Role An opportunity exists to join the St Vincent’s Pathology team as a Research Assistant to back-fill maternity leave. You will participate in research projects relating to diagnostic and associated tests for the investigation of various disease states, with a focus on cardiac disease. These projects will involve collaboration with the Emergency Department and Department of Cardiology at SVHM and researchers from other organisations including St Vincent’s Research Institute of Medical Research. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientist who wants to contribute to applied research that harnesses the power of Pathology to improve diagnosis and management of disease. Classifications for this position will range from RX1 – RX7 ($63,674 - $91,785.2 per annum pro rata) Key Responsibilities Perform biochemistry tests including immunoassays, chromatography and immunoaffinity separations Experiment design Collection and collation of data using clinical databases and tools Data analysis, management and presentation Project management including maintenance of records and storage of samples Participation and presentation at laboratory meetings Literature reviews Preparation of and assistance with manuscripts and Ethics applications General laboratory operations including ordering consumables Qualifications, Skills and Experience A Bachelor’s degree in science, biomedical science or equivalent Higher qualifications such as M.Sc. or PhD are desirable High level knowledge and experience in Biochemistry Experience in laboratory techniques including immunoassays, Western blotting, protein purification and assay design and development Benefits Salary packaging Employee Assistance Program Staff Car Park Flexible work hours Application Please attach your resume and cover letter to your application.
