Overview: Full-time , fixed term position for 2.5 years Salary Academic Level A/B (depending on experience) + 17% Superannuation Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University About You The Research Assistant/Research Fellow will work on an industry driven project as part of the activities of the Solving Plastic Waste Cooperative Research Centre (SPW CRC). The Fellow will undertake research on the development of biopolymer systems, including modifications and formulations with the aim to produce sustainable packaging products that will replace traditional petroleum-based plastics and minimise plastic waste. In this position, you will engage in research activities that align with the University’s research strategy. You are expected to carry out both independent and/or team-based research that makes a significant impact in the area of biodegradable and compostable polymer, gaining national recognition for expanding knowledge in this discipline. As a Research Fellow, you are expected to plan, develop and engage in high-quality research projects that are aligned with the University’s research focus areas. You will integrate your research expertise into the School's activities through the development of high-quality, productivity-driven research networks across RMIT and with local and national, internal and external partners. Moreover, you are expected to engage in high-quality research projects, secure research funding successfully and to produce high quality outputs. To be successful in this position, you will have: A PhD in Chemistry/Engineering, Chemical/Materials engineering, with relevant work experience on polymer materials, polymer composites/nanocomposites/biodegradable/compostable polymers, polymer modification, structure/property relationship in polymer materials, and polymer blends with enhanced processability and properties. Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs, which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links. Demonstrated ability to supervise higher degree by research candidates. Ability to build effective networks with colleagues and generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration.
