Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences Full-time, fixed-term position through to April 2026 commencing ASAP Base salary will range from $113,377 - $127,112 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8) Based at our Dutton Park campus About This Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Operations Manager to join our team at Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) to manage the successful operations and delivery of the Centre’s core research activities. As the Research Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Director, Chief Investigators and their research teams to identify research funding opportunities, assist with the preparation of high-quality written applications for grants and fellowships, and support research management. For current UQ staff members, this is an ideal secondment opportunity offering you the chance to upskill and gain valuable experience supporting this high performing Centre. Please note any secondment arrangement would require approval from current management. Key Responsibilities Ensure that the research deliverables under the QAEHS funding agreement with Queensland Health are met. Provide administrative support in the preparation of competitive funding applications, including strategic advice and editorial review of the structure, content, clarity, style and appropriateness of the proposal for the specific funding scheme. Provide high-level project management for research projects and pre and post research contract and grants management, including coordination of collaborators and preparing quotes and proposals for contract research, consultancy work and tenders. Provide oversight and high-level support for research administration matters including the provision of advice and guidance to researchers and postgraduate students with meeting their obligations regarding the conduct of research, including human ethics, conflicts of interest. Generate, grow and develop strategic linkages with industry/other partners to support current strategic research objectives and identify new potential research opportunities. Maintain and enhance high-level relationships with research collaborators and stakeholders to ensure project activities are coordinated and running in accordance with research protocol. Identify and actively progress research funding opportunities to maximise research income, with emphasis on large scale, complex, programmatic grants, special initiatives, fellowships and industry funding. About You Our ideal candidate will have strong administrative and managerial skills as well as exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. You will have significant experience and expertise in providing high-level strategic, operational and administrative research support and advice, and the ability to proactively solve problems, prioritise workload and to work collaboratively as a key member of the team. In addition, you will possess: Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive research management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or extensive relevant experience and expertise. Demonstrated skills and experience in research contract administration and management, working with a considerable degree of autonomy, preferably within a large, complex institution; or extensive knowledge of the operation and management of relevant industry, philanthropic and Australian competitive granting schemes, with specific experience in writing/editing successful funding applications. Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to understand and present complex scientific content in a clear and concise manner. Demonstrated capacity to develop, manage and coordinate research projects in a multidisciplinary environment. Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with industry personnel and other stakeholders at a senior level for development and operationalising of successful funding applications and undertake contract research negotiations. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise responsibilities, work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, self-motivated and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
