Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer Location: Hobart, Tasmania About Us Stadiums Tasmania is a statutory authority established by the Tasmanian Government under the provisions contained in the Stadiums Tasmania Act 2022 (the Act) to centralise the ownership, management, and capital development of Tasmania’s major public stadiums, and fulfill a role in attracting and hosting national and international events whilst still being accessible to the wider Tasmanian community. About the Opportunity We are looking for an energetic, detail-oriented and highly motivated Risk, Safety and Compliance Officer who will work with the Stadiums Tasmania Executive team to develop, implement and drive Stadiums Tasmania’s work health and safety culture. This will be achieved by providing technical guidance to leaders and teams to ensure they understand their responsibilities under work health and safety laws and to enhance their commitment to health and safety in the workplace, reducing risk and injury and ensuring a safe workplace. The successful candidate will need to be adept at building and maintaining relationships and meeting the needs of a diverse stakeholder group, whilst meeting statutory obligations. This role offers candidates a significant opportunity to be a part of an exciting organisation and contribute to the successful establishment of Stadiums Tasmania. Major Duties Establish and maintain systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective undertaking of WHS responsibilities within our stadiums. Promote sound and contemporary WHS practices in our stadiums with key stakeholders. Influence a positive safety culture. Assist with the development and implementation of the key policies and procedures identified as part of our WHS GAP analysis. Develop hazard, injury and incident reporting system. Analyse risk, safety and compliance trends and make recommendations. Liaise with key stakeholders for risk, safety and compliance inspections and audits. Assist in the development of Annual Building Essential Maintenance Requirements. Coordinate risk assessments, controls and risk mitigation. Support Stadiums Tasmania’s hazard register. Provide assistance with investigation of hazards and serious injuries. Chair the Stadiums Tasmania Health and Safety Committee. Provide advice and contribute to the development of WHS elements of the Strategic Plan. Conduct reviews of risk, safety and compliance policies and procedures. Work within timelines and budget to meet WHS deliverables. Provide regular risk, safety and compliance reports and statistics. Coordinate and conduct professional learning sessions to relevant stakeholders. Produce relevant WHS documentation, including training guides, manuals, policies and procedures as required. Contribute to the development and implementation of the WHS Annual Plan. Provide assistance with general risk projects as directed by the Executive Leadership Team. Key Success Factors The role will require someone who is both strategic and hands-on, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines at once. You will be a great communicator and proactive in identifying system and process improvement opportunities. In addition to demonstrating relevant experiences across the core functional areas of responsibility identified above, the successful candidates will require the following skills, experience and qualifications: Essential Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing risk, safety and compliance strategies in a live environment with competing demands and the need to prioritise patron and staff safety prior, during and post an event. Demonstrated comprehension of WHS practices and principles. Demonstrated understanding of WHS legislation and statutory requirements. Ability to deliver training to staff, contractors and others. Proficient with office equipment and technology and use of Microsoft Office and Google suite of applications. Able to work independently with broad direction. Highly effective administrative and decision-making skills that demonstrate clarity, competence and a collaborative approach. Demonstrated professional integrity. Able to work in a team environment. Able to apply high-level communication skills, both verbally and in writing to a wide range of people. Excellent time management and organisational abilities. Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail. Reliable and dependable. Able to use initiative to anticipate and create practical solutions to problems. Able to maintain integrity and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information and matters. Able to undertake research and data analysis. Able to manage and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner. Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar role. Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to partner with other leaders or organisations to achieve patron focused outcomes. Ability to set priorities, plan work programs, meet deadlines and manage time effectively. High energy, enthusiasm and drive, inspiring others to achieve. Current Tasmania driver’s licence. Satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People Card. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory police check. Stadiums Tasmania will reimburse the cost of this once presented. Desirable A broad understanding of the Tasmanian and Australian sports and major events landscape, and the role that venue safety and places of mass gathering play in this landscape. Diploma in WHS or equivalent. Experience or a desire to build on your ability to present to Boards and senior leaders and succinctly communicate issues or opportunities. Additional Information Some out of normal hours work and work on weekends will be required in addition to intra-state travel.
