Job Description

Full-time term vacancy until 06 February 2026. AHP2 ($88,255 - $102,240 p.a.) / PO2 ($88,255 - $97,667 p.a.) + 11.5% Superannuation. Positively contribute to the development of Social Workers and Case Managers. The Department for Child Protection is seeking a Senior Practitioner to join the Whyalla office on a full-time term basis. The role is responsible for: Enhancing Social Worker/ Case Management capacity and principles of social work practice by providing advice to DCP staff, mentoring and researching new techniques and methodologies. Undertaking regular reviews of cases to ensure that effective plans are in place and appropriate case management is occurring. Providing a specialist opinion or recommendation to support Youth Court processes and act as a witness in court proceedings in addition to assisting with the preparation of case conferences, assessments and reports. Contributing to the implementation of continuous quality improvement and policy development initiatives. About You We are looking for a confident individual experienced in providing professional advice on social work/case management matters through coaching and mentoring of peers. To be successful you will have the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community. You will have knowledge of social work legislative framework including acts, regulations and social work/case management theories and methodologies that guide social work practice principles. You will also have the ability to analyse complex problems and resolve matters that demonstrate reflective practice. Special Conditions Essential Qualifications: AHP: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. PO: Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field. Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
