About the Microbiology Department: Microbiology utilises state of the art automation and technologies as well as conventional manual methodology to generate clinically valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of infections. About the role: This position is for a Medical Scientist (Grade 3) in Microbiology Department, full-time (40 hrs per week) . It is suitable for a candidate with relevant qualifications, knowledge, and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory. The successful candidate should be available to work rotating 24/7 shifts including public holidays and weekends. This position is for a scientist who is available to work onsite at Heidelberg and may also perform various duties related to microbiology in the Austin Pathology regional laboratories, including attending regional laboratories for purposes of staff training and implementation/review of specimen processing, quality control, documentation, equipment, reagents, and other tasks as required. About you: To be successful in this role you must demonstrate: Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory performing specimen set up, reading and interpreting microscopy and microbiological cultures, isolate identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Adept in staff training and documentation. Competency using a range of relevant computer software. Good communication skills & ability to work efficiently both independently & in a team. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks, manage increasing demand and cope with change. Experience with various microbiology laboratory automation systems such as Kiestra WCA, MALDI-TOF, Atellica Urine Analyser, Bactec Blood Culture System, Vitek Antibiotic Susceptibility Test System, BD Max PCR and/or GeneXpert PCR (highly regarded). Strong understanding and track record of implementation and maintaining internal and external quality systems, both onsite and in the regional areas.
