Job Description

The Section Manager Industry Engagement leads, manages and coaches a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed team responsible for delivering CASA's safety education program through aviation safety seminars, webinars and other industry engagement activities as well as maintaining relationships with aerodrome operators, small and large air operators, maintenance organisations and industry associations to improve safety awareness.Our Aviation Safety Advisors (ASAs) are here to help the aviation community meet safety requirements. The team offers safety education and advice through on-site visits and seminars.This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a passionate and highly skilled team that is motivated to support safety in aviation.The Section Manager, Industry Engagement works under broad guidance and is responsible for the following deliverables: Leads and manages a team who build effective relationships with aviation industry stakeholders, including airlines, airports, aircraft operators, maintenance organisations, other government agencies and CASA colleagues through consultation and collaboration. Proactively maintains an awareness of and synthesises technical, commercial, regulatory and political considerations to drive service delivery outcomes. Proactively fosters a collaborative approach across CASA business units to deliver a unified approach to aviation safety for the aviation community. Provides strategic leadership, advice and direction for CASA's engagement with its aviation industry stakeholders to ensure corporate goals and objectives are delivered. Provides strategic advice to senior management to support the development of safety education programs and training materials. Drives continuous improvement activities for the team - including delivery of greater online seminars and other innovative ways to deliver safety education initiatives. Shapes and embeds communication practices and processes to support effective and informed decision making and proactive management of stakeholder relationships. Facilitates an agile team approach to respond to emerging or urgent industry or government requirements at short notice. Builds an organisational culture that has a strong client focus. Contributes to the development, deployment and leadership of CASA's strategic direction, business and financial plans. At all times, acts consistently in accordance with the CASA Values and Behaviours. Promotes workplace safety, equity and diversity and participative management and environmental management practices in the workplace. The key duties of the position include: Our ideal candidate: The following are mandatory requirements: Extensive experience in stakeholder relations and communications, including the ability to build effective relationships with aviation industry stakeholders, other government agencies and CASA colleagues through consultation and collaboration. Demonstrated experience and/or ability to build, manage and lead a high-performing team, preferably in a regulatory or public sector environment. Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing sensitive issues. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences. Relevant experience in, and/or a clear understanding of the domestic and international political environments in which CASA performs its functions. Qualifications in a technical aviation discipline (e.g., hold an Australian pilot licence or aviation engineering qualification) and aviation industry experience. These are highly desirable for the role: An understanding of contemporary aviation industry issues, trends and regulatory frameworks including Australian civil aviation legislation and Australia's obligations to ICAO. Relevant experience or qualifications in communications. Experience providing in-depth, specialist expertise and technical knowledge across all aviation sectors on regulatory or policy matters. Demonstrated experience in management of budgets and use of financial delegations in accordance with government policies and procedures.
