Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the State Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies.To achieve this, VAGO annually conducts over 530 financial audits and numerous performance audits across a diverse range of portfolios including infrastructure, transport, health and social services, education, water, local government, insurance, justice, treasury and superannuation. We have two audit portfolios within VAGO: Parliamentary Reports and Services and Financial Audit. Our audit support function is split into the Office of the Auditor-General and Corporate Services. What's the role? Reporting to the Assistant Auditor-General, Financial Audit and leading a team, you will be part of an innovative division that champions transparency, accountability, and excellence. You’ll implement the Auditor General’s strategic vision, oversee sector-based work programs, and lead the delivery of external audits and business improvement initiatives. This is a leadership role at the forefront of public sector auditing and as such you’ll also foster collaboration, professional development, and drive impactful change. Who we're looking for A proven leader with a history of delivering complex audits, investigations, and inquiries on time and on budget, you are an expert in managing risks, resources, and procurement processes, including finances and contracts. A strategic thinker with the ability to drive innovation and use emerging trends to enhance public sector accountability, you have a passion for mentoring and inspiring and develops teams, ensuring they thrive and align with the organisation’s goals. Qualifications Extensive practical application and experience with auditing standards and methodologies or complex investigations, inquiries or reviews. Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Business, or related fields (postgraduate qualifications preferred). Full professional membership with CPA Australia, CAANZ, or IPA.
