About our team Industry, Infrastructure and Environment Division (II&E) offers fascinating work on issues that matter and prides itself on its culture. We liaise closely across Commonwealth agencies and with others, working together to get things done. What you’ll be doing II&E is looking to fill Senior Adviser (EL2) positions – vacancies are available immediately and over the course of 2025. In II&E, we work together to solve problems, strive to make a difference, lean into tough issues, focus on what matters most, and respect and support each other. Senior Advisers in II&E lead small teams working across a wide range of portfolios: energy, climate change, infrastructure and transport, communications, the arts, agriculture, regional, industry and science, the environment and water, and resources. There is an immediate vacancy for a Senior Adviser in the Communications and Arts Section . The role offers fast paced and fascinating work on a wide range of priority issues that matter to Australians, including media and digital platforms policy, access to telecommunications services, and growing and protecting our creative economy, content and culture. You will be working in the centre of government decision-making. We ensure that the Prime Minister, Cabinet and National Cabinet have clear advice, that policy debates are well informed and that policy options are provided, so that decisions can be made effectively, explained clearly and delivered well. Why you’re the ideal candidate We work in a dynamic, collaborative and fast paced environment, so we are looking for someone to manage a team with tight deadlines, multiple priorities and high-profile subjects. Our ideal candidate will have personal initiative, skills navigating complex policy and managing stakeholders, and clear, precise and concise communication. Your key skills, experience and attributes will include: • Strategic leader – demonstrated initiative and sound judgement, often in ambiguous or uncertain situations. • Manage a small team to deliver big things - with a sense of humour and a focus on developing team members’ capability and confidence. • Ability to quickly build relationships and establish rapport – managing competing stakeholder views and sensitivities to deliver results. • Strong verbal and written communication skills – able to brief Senior Executives, Minister’s offices or Ministers as required. • Ability to critically engage with complex proposals – confident undertaking work with a high level of complexity and operate under broad direction. • Organised and hard working – with strong attention to detail. • Subject matter knowledge of the relevant policy portfolios is desirable but not essential. A merit pool will be established to fill vacancies in II&E for 18 months from date of advertising.
