Senior Business Development Manager – Private Equity About us Vantage Asset Management is an independent Australian investment firm established in 2004, specialising in private equity fund-of-funds investments. The firm focuses on Australian growth and buyout private equity, particularly targeting lower to mid-market investments ranging from $25 million to $250 million in enterprise value. Vantage has a proven 20-year track record, with managed funds investing in 35 unique primary private equity funds, encompassing 194 underlying companies across diverse industry sectors. As of December 31, 2024, 103 of these investments have been exited, achieving a 2.9x money multiple on invested capital and an average gross internal rate of return (IRR) of 48.1% per annum. Position Overview Vantage is seeking an experienced investment professional with extensive relationships in the Australian small-institutional (e.g. family offices, endowments, charities) and wholesale (private banks, wealth advisory firms, IFAs, direct HNW/UHNW) markets with a strong track record of raising capital in one or more of these areas over the last 5-10 years. The successful candidate will work with the Head of Distribution to build out Vantage’s domestic capital raising capability by leveraging existing relationships, developing new relationships and identifying new pools of capital. They will also be required to maintain strong relationships with intermediaries and new investors sourced by the candidate, including providing regular updates on the firm’s investment activities and performance, and addressing queries as required. In addition to having responsibility for domestic capital raising, the candidate will be expected to stay abreast of market developments and trends as it relates to investor requirements (e.g. fund terms, structures, fees etc.) and ensure that Vantage’s offerings continue to be fit for purpose and is differentiated in the market as a superior offering. The role will be Sydney based. Key Responsibilities Sales and Business Development Identify, engage, and establish relationships with wholesale intermediaries and financial advisers. Promote the company's private equity solutions to meet client investment goals. Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve revenue and growth targets. Client Relationship Management Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders. Act as a trusted adviser, providing expertise on private equity products and market trends. Deliver exceptional client service, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and loyalty. Product Knowledge and Presentations Develop a deep understanding of the company’s private equity offerings, including fund structures, performance, and risk profiles. Conduct presentations, workshops, and seminars to educate intermediaries and advisers about private equity opportunities. Address client inquiries with clear, accurate, and timely communication. Market Insights Monitor market trends, competitor activities and developments to identify business opportunities and risks. Provide feedback to internal teams on client needs and market demands to inform product development and marketing strategies. Compliance and Reporting Ensure all sales activities comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate records of client interactions, sales activities, and progress toward targets in the CRM system. Prepare and present regular sales reports and forecasts to management. Qualifications and Role Requirements Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field. Proven experience in sales, preferably within private equity, asset management, or financial services with a strong track record of raising capital. Have exceptional relationship-building and networking abilities. An understanding of confidential nature of work with a high level of professional integrity. Comprehensive understanding of private equity and alternative investments, including structures, performance metrics, and risk management. Existing client base with deep relationships with wholesale intermediaries, advisers, and financial institutions. Excellent presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset and a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets. Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements. Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales reporting tools. The candidate will preferably have experience in selling alternative asset strategies within the wholesale channel, however this is not a strict requirement. They will be able to work with existing and new clients in understanding their broader portfolio requirements, effectively communicate the benefits and the role of private equity within a broader portfolio as well as that of a diversified fund-of-fund model. The candidate will be commercially minded and have a strong business acumen. Preferred Qualifications Professional certifications such as CFA, CAIA, or equivalent. Established network of contacts within the wholesale financial adviser and intermediary space. Experience in educating clients on complex financial products.
