Reporting to the Head of IT, Infrastructure, and Operations (Head of I&O), you will be responsible for the operational execution of IT infrastructure initiatives. You will operate with autonomy in day-to-day operations while adhering to the strategic framework and guidance provided by the Head of IT Operations and Infrastructure. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Key Accountabilities: Drive a Cloud-First Approach: Support the design, implementation, and operational management of systems to achieve high-quality, secure, and reliable IT services with agility. Lead Automation and Scalability: Implement new deployments and efficiency improvements in Azure, ensuring continuous innovation and alignment with AMSA’s strategic direction. Provide Expert Technical Advice: Assist the Head of I&O in evaluating emerging technologies and innovations in serverless computing, automation, cloud-native security, identity, and DevOps tooling. Represent Technical Aspects: Participate in governance forums as delegated, representing the technical aspects of infrastructure operations. Foster a Collaborative Environment: Share knowledge, mentor junior team members, and set the standard for cloud engineering best practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Azure AD security principles, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM). Shape Architecture and Automate Deployments: Provide proactive guidance and operational advice in the planning and agile delivery of new projects to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Adhere to Established Procedures: Focus on security, reliability, responsiveness, and continuity in the operation of AMSA’s systems. Assess System Performance: Identify trends and recommend operational improvements using tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Defender for Cloud to enhance service quality, security, and efficiency. Maintain Accurate Records: Support continuous improvement efforts by maintaining records of incidents, problems, and service trends. Key Responsibilities: Setup and Configuration: Perform setup, configuration, and operational support of Azure, Exchange Online, Microsoft 365 suite, and identity services while supporting a hybrid environment, including Active Directory where required. Manage Cloud Infrastructure: Ensure optimal performance and compliance with security standards for Azure and AWS services. Support Enterprise Backup Systems: Manage data storage and retention policies in compliance with AMSA requirements. Drive IT Infrastructure Projects: Collaborate with the Head of I&O and Managed Service Provider (MSP) to ensure effective execution and operational alignment. Lead MSP Collaboration: Ensure seamless delivery of infrastructure projects and services, driving best practices and efficiency. Represent at CAB: Address technical risks and ensure alignment with AMSA’s strategic objectives at the Change Advisory Board (CAB). Monitor and Analyse Trends: Identify emerging risks, vulnerabilities, and areas for the operational improvement. Decision-Making Authority: Operational Decisions: Independently manage day-to-day technical operations within the framework established by the Head of I&O. Consultative Decisions: Escalate strategic, policy, and major project decisions to the Head of I&O for review. For more information about this role, please refer to the position description. People who are successful in this position must have the following pre-requisites: 5+ years demonstrated experience in IT infrastructure roles with a strong focus on Azure cloud services. Demonstrated knowledge of ITIL V3/V4 Service Management Framework in an IT service management environment. Hands on experience managing Azure IaaS and PaaS, including virtual machines, application services and storage solutions. Knowledge of Azure networking and hybrid identity, including VNETs, VPN Gateway, NSGs, Private Link, Azure AD, MFA and Conditional Access. Experience in cloud security best practices, including Defender for Cloud, RBAC and Privileged Identity Management (PIM). Proficiency in monitoring and automation using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Application Insights. Strong problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment.
