About the Job This full-time role at our Dog Training Academy works Tuesday to Saturday, and serves to enhance the wellbeing and harmonious relationships between dogs and their owners. This is achieved through professional and effective dog training programs designed to address specific behavioural needs, promote positive communication, and foster a strong bond between pets and their human companions. The department is dedicated to providing education, guidance, and support to pet owners, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to understand, communicate, and positively influence their dogs’ behaviour. Key Objectives: Behavioural Enhancement: Undertake balanced dog training methods, integrating positive reinforcement for desired behaviours alongside suitable avoidance techniques for unwanted behaviours, fostering a comprehensive and effective approach to modifying dog behaviour. Owner Education: Educating pet owners is a fundamental goal. By offering guidance on canine behaviour, training methodologies, and effective communication, the role helps owners become confident and knowledgeable pet parents. Safety and Welfare: Ensuring the safety and well-being of both dogs and owners is a priority. This includes creating a secure and supportive training environment and offering guidance on responsible pet ownership. Adapted Training Programs: Delivering adaptable training programs to meet the unique needs of individual dogs, considering factors such as breed, age, temperament, and any specific behavioural challenges. These programs include stay and train programs, one-on-one training, and group training. Continuous Improvement: Staying abreast of the latest advancements in dog training and behaviour science, the department is committed to continuous improvement, adapting methods and programs to reflect the evolving understanding of canine behaviour. About You To be a high achieving professional dog trainer at our dog training academy you will need to demonstrate the following key attributes: Expertise: Have a comprehensive understanding of canine behaviour, learning theories, and various training methodologies. Patience: Remain calm and composed, understanding that positive results often come with consistent and patient efforts. Communication Skills: Effective communication in conveying instructions to both dogs and their owners. Excel in clearly explaining training techniques, expectations, and providing feedback in a constructive manner. Empathy: Understands and empathises with both the dog and the owner, considering their unique needs, emotions, and experiences. Adaptability: Adapt methods to suit each dog’s specific needs based on varying temperaments, breeds, and backgrounds. Observational Skills: Keen to observe canine behaviour, identifying subtle cues and body language. Problem-Solving Ability: Excel in identifying the dog’s root causes and developing effective strategies to address them. Professionalism: Conduct yourself in a manner that reflects competence, reliability, and ethical standards. Passion for Education: Passionate about educating dog owners and pet care employees. The incumbent will primarily be required to work indoors and outdoors, and must be able to perform various physical activities.
