About the role The Senior Economist is responsible for delivering expert economic analysis, advice, and strategic recommendations to support decision-making on investment and economic development for the Gold Coast. You will lead technical work, providing economic advisory services and developing and reporting on key macroeconomic indicators. You will oversee research initiatives, manage complex economic models, and produce insightful reports that shape strategic direction, initiatives, and key decisions. About you You are highly analytical with demonstrated experience in leading high-quality economic research projects and delivering actionable insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, to inform investment strategies and economic development decisions. You bring an eye for detail and a strong focus on maintaining the highest standards in economic research and reporting. You will also have: Demonstrated ability to analyse macroeconomic trends, industry developments, and market dynamics while experienced in applying and maintaining robust economic modelling and forecasting, to provide valuable insights that shape strategic decision-making. A proven track record of managing large, complex datasets (structured and unstructured) and proficient in managing and ensuring access to critical data sources. Strong stakeholder engagement skills ensuring that you can effectively communicate findings and recommendations to senior decision-makers, translating economic data into strategic recommendations that drive local economic growth. Whether it’s through detailed reports, briefings, or presentations, you possess the ability to simplify complex economic concepts and present them in a way that is accessible to diverse audiences, including senior leaders and non-experts. Meticulous and committed to producing work that is both accurate and insightful, ensuring your analysis withstands expert external scrutiny. Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in Economics (Master’s or PhD desirable).
