Avant is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our business on a full-time, permanent basis in our Sydney CBD office with a hybrid working arrangement.The key responsibilities include: Manage the accounting functions of the medical indemnity insurance entity, including preparing accounting entries and balance sheet reconciliations for insurance premiums, claims reserves, and reinsurance transactions. Ensure the accurate and timely submission of regulatory reports to APRA. Collaborate with the Group Accounting team to ensure compliance with AASB 17 disclosures in the financial statements, reflecting the impact on profit or loss, insurance revenue, and insurance service expenses. Stay informed on Australian financial regulations and insurance accounting practices to maintain the company’s compliance. Support the internal audit process and ensure adherence to all regulatory standards, including APRA regulations and ASIC requirements. To be successful in this role you will have: Minimum of 6 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry. Strong understanding of Australian Insurance accounting practices, including that of premiums, claims reserves, and reinsurance. Experience with Australian tax laws and regulatory requirements (GST, BAS, stamp duty, APRA regulations). Experience with financial reporting and compliance with AASB standards. Why work at Avant?
