The Senior Forest and Fire Operations Officer - Cultural Operations is a skilled field-based role that will contribute to district-wide field operations delivery and works planning. The role involves undertaking Aboriginal heritage value assessment and protection when required and working closely with district and regional teams to assist with works delivery planning for fuel management and forest management programs. This position will be involved with the identification, assessment, and protection of cultural heritage sites and values for the delivery of operational activities in State Forest and National Parks. Responsibilities include: Supervision of contractors and delivery of site assessments. Ensuring program delivery standards across locations. Providing progress reporting and supporting field marking to protect cultural heritage values and assets. Maintaining protection standards and supervising field staff, heavy plant operations, and contractors. Contributing to the recruitment, development, and support of Aboriginal field staff. Participating in cultural heritage programs and engaging with external partner groups, such as First Peoples and Traditional Owner communities. Minimum Requirements: Applicants must hold a current manual Drivers Licence (conditions A, I & V not acceptable for employment). Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications: Demonstrated experience and understanding of cultural heritage values and works planning required for the delivery of programs including forest management, road management, fuel management, and emergency preparedness and response. Demonstrated experience in field-based identification, protection, and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage values in delivery of forest and fire management activities. This position is ongoing. The location for this position is flexible within the Otways District. You'll have the chance to explore and protect stunning landscapes whilst earning a competitive salary ranging from $75,361 to $82,298 per annum, plus superannuation.
