The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is looking for a Senior Lawyer to join its Burnie team in North West Tasmania. The focus of the role will be to lead the criminal law practice within the region, support the operation & management of the office and provide culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients in a broad range of matters. What we are looking for A minimum of 5 years’ experience in criminal practice and procedure, with substantial experience in appearance work in the Magistrates Court. Experience in the Supreme Court is preferred but not essential. Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising staff, including junior lawyers. The ability to work collaboratively with others and foster a positive team environment. An understanding of the social issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania, and a deep appreciation and respect of their cultural needs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to a wide variety of people. Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills, demonstrating a history of maintaining positive and effective partnerships.
