About the Role Join our specialist Privacy & Data Legal team that is dedicated to supporting ANZ’s privacy, data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and intellectual property strategies and objectives globally across ANZ. As a Senior Lawyer, Privacy & Data, you are to provide quality, commercially astute and timely legal advice to ANZ clients in an efficient and pro-active manner. In addition to advising on a full range of data, privacy, automation and innovation matters, this role will be part of our growing artificial intelligence and machine learning practice. These matters involve cutting-edge privacy, intellectual property and technology considerations, legal data protection reviews, and developing precedents and frameworks to help accelerate ANZ’s AI strategy. You will experience a variety of challenging work, including innovative projects for financial services, data-based collaboration and artificial intelligence. You will frequently partner with other enablement functions including other parts of the Legal Team, Privacy Risk and other risk colleagues, Procurement, Compliance and Technology to provide privacy, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, technology and data-related legal advice. The Privacy & Data Legal Team performs as a “centre of excellence” to support matters that have an ANZ-wide impact across multiple divisions. While much of the work is Australia based, ANZ operates in multiple jurisdictions and has operating entities all around the world, and the team supports with matters globally. Your work will reflect this. The regulatory environment that ANZ operates in is increasingly complex and you will be involved in regulatory and legislative reform processes, including providing legal advice on generative AI-related regulatory reform. You will be involved in supporting enablement functions, leading the implementation of compliant responses to such new and changing regulations. You will also need to instruct and manage external law firms who provide additional assistance from time to time. What will you bring? To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following: Have more than 10 years Post Qualification Experience in data, privacy, technology, intellectual property and automation. Have experience in some, if not all, of the relevant specialties including artificial intelligence and machine learning, privacy, intellectual property, technology, and financial services regulation. Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team. Be excellent at time management with a demonstrated track record of managing challenging workloads. Strength as a trusted adviser, capable of initiating, building, and maintaining effective relationships across a range of disciplines and situations. Be a practical, analytical person who articulates legal risks clearly and concisely and is outcomes focused. Some additional skills for this role which will be viewed favourably include: Experience in a regulated industry such as financial services or data analytics in the context of platforms and emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence. Be strong at relationship building. Be a practical, problem solver who can articulate legal risks clearly and concisely. Be comfortable with ambiguity in areas of developing law such as artificial intelligence, privacy and data. Have outstanding drafting and negotiation skills, including in the context of technology and other procurement contracts. You’re not expected to have 100% of these skills.
