Applus Pty Ltd is a division of an international inspection company that carries out a wide range of advanced non-destructive testing, inspection, and asset integrity services. As well as the Australian operations, Applus has offices in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America focusing on the inspection and maintenance of industrial facilities. The company specializes in performing non-destructive tests and inspections to secure the quality and integrity of technical facilities. CORE FUNCTION - Supporting the Materials Centre by providing a range of materials focused services to clients, including materials/mechanical testing and failure analysis: Conduct various testing, materials analysis and failure analysis studies, of various metallic and non-metallic materials. Testing may include use of universal testing machines, chemical analysis, hardness testing, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Conduct site-based inspections and testing for clients in industries including but not limited to Oil and Gas, Marine, Mining, Power, Utilities and Manufacturing. Present reports to clients and discuss queries and suggestions as required. Consult with clients in all aspects of work. Provide training and guidance to technicians in metallurgical testing techniques. Conduct verification of competency assessments in metallurgical testing techniques. Supervise employees conducting metallurgical testing and other materials related tasks, as required. Perform other duties as may be required from time to time, commensurate with skills and experience. Quality Management Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the A+ Quality Management System. Imbue personnel with a positive attitude in relation to Quality Management issues. Safety & Environment Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the A+ Health Safety and Environmental Management System, observing in addition any site specific and/or statutory requirements. Imbue personnel with a positive attitude in relation to Safety and Environment issues. Knowledge and Skills Minimum 5 years’ experience within the oil and gas industry, or similar. Relevant tertiary degree in Metallurgy or Materials. Knowledge of failure analysis and root cause analysis processes. Experience with metallurgical and/or materials sample preparations, testing and microscopy. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, image analysis and other computer software used for metallurgical and materials testing. Knowledge of non-metallic materials, including polymers and ceramics (desirable). Personal Attributes Resilient and adaptable. Confident and articulate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Efficient, organised and able to plan through to completion. Practical, hands-on approach. Team-player.
