Senior Observability Engineer Employment Type: 1 x Temporary role until 30 June 2026 Location: Flexible/hybrid working arrangements available across NSW, with some travel to Sydney metro locations required from time to time (negotiable) Grade: Clerk Grade 9/10 Salary Range: $125,693 - $138,510 p.a. base salary dependent on experience, plus 11.5% superannuation. The opportunity We are now inviting applications for the opportunity of Senior Observability Engineer for Government Technology Platforms, within Digital NSW as it transforms to become the state's trusted partner to enable accessible and secure digital platforms and services for the citizens and business of NSW. In this role you will implement and maintain observability solutions that provide deep insights into the performance of our systems, proactively addressing problems that impact how we understand and operate our products at scale. Works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our platforms, products and services are resilient, reliable and scalable. Day to day responsibilities: Vulnerability Management: Identifying reporting and working with owners to remediate vulnerabilities. Monitoring and Analysis of Cyber events: monitor security events and alerts from various sources to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities. Incident Response: Investigate and respond to security incidents, ensuring timely resolution and mitigation of risks. System Maintenance: Ensure Cyber toolsets are running effectively and prepare reports for the business. What you will bring to this role: Demonstrated experience in balancing technical expertise, analytical skills, and soft skills to effectively design, implement, and maintain observability solutions. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate and adopt observability practices. Understanding of microservices architecture and cloud-native technologies. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues proactively. Ability to analyse complex log data, metrics, and traces to derive actionable insights. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Key knowledge and experience: 5+ years of experience in observability, monitoring, or related fields. Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native technologies. Experience with scripting and automation. Experience with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Familiarity with machine learning and AI-driven observability solutions.
