Process Engineer – Chemical Engineering Rutherford Location: Initial 6-month opportunity with potential for extension Pay Rate: $180 - $250 per hour (depending on experience) About Our Client Our client is Australia’s leading waste management company, providing sustainable solutions for recycling, hazardous waste treatment, and industrial services. Their Rutherford Waste Oil Collection Facility specialises in refining and reprocessing waste oils to ensure environmentally responsible waste treatment and disposal. As part of their ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, they are undertaking a major process enhancement project to optimise their SOx scrubbing system. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager (Process Engineer – Chemical Engineering) to lead a critical process improvement project at a waste oil refinery. The successful candidate will oversee the design and execution planning phases to Final Investment Decision (FID), followed by implementation, commissioning, and handover of a new SOx scrubbing system. This project will transition from a Sodium-based SOx scrubbing system to a Calcium-based system, enabling more cost-effective waste treatment at a second facility in NSW. This role is ideal for a highly experienced project manager with a background in process engineering, plant modifications, and commissioning of industrial facilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the project through design and execution planning phases to Final Investment Decision (FID). Oversee implementation, commissioning, and successful handover of the new scrubbing system. Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution. Manage project scope, budget, schedules, and risk assessments to achieve key milestones. Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards throughout the project lifecycle. Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, and company leadership. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise plant performance and operational efficiency. Prepare and present progress reports and project documentation to senior management. Skills & Experience Required Degree in Chemical Engineering. Extensive experience in project management, particularly in design, execution, commissioning, and handover of industrial process plants. Background in waste treatment, oil refining, or chemical processing industries is highly regarded. Strong understanding of SOx scrubbing systems, emissions control, and process optimisation. Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams, budgets, and project timelines. Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
