Reference: VG/00278432/00413967/18 Salary Range: $109,730 - $132,764 The Mental Health Tribunal (Tribunal) is an independent statutory body funded and supported by the Department. The Tribunal is an essential safeguard under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 to protect the rights and dignity of people with mental illness. The primary function of the Tribunal is to determine whether the criteria for compulsory mental health treatment as set out in the Act apply to a person. A treatment order enables an authorised psychiatrist to provide compulsory treatment to the person, who will be treated in the community or as an inpatient, for a specified period. The Tribunal also reviews variations in treatment orders and hears applications for the revocation of an order. About the role: 0.8 part time fixed term until 02-FEB-2026 Reporting to the Principal Registrar, the Senior Registrar supports the Principal Registrar to deliver the Tribunal's operational and strategic priorities. The Senior Registrar plays a significant people leadership role by having oversight of Registry operations, professional development, and workforce management and planning. The Senior Registrar also works closely and builds effective relationships with stakeholders in managing the Tribunal's state-wide hearing functions, and is expected to develop staff capability and apply critical thinking to identify gaps, impacts, risks and implement solutions under the guidance of the Principal Registrar. How you'll make a difference: Manage a team of registry staff by providing leadership, supervision, coaching, identifying suitable training needs and supporting development opportunities. Demonstrate a level of authority and autonomy to resolve operational issues by developing and implementing new precedents and principles. Assist the Principal Registrar in the strategic planning and management of the Tribunal's state-wide hearing program to fulfil the Tribunal's statutory functions, including to: develop and manage an effective and efficient venue schedule for Tribunal hearings develop, implement and review effective policies and procedures to deliver registry functions schedule hearings, case manage complex matters and coordinate sitting usage produce and distribute Tribunal determinations and Orders. Assist the Principal Registrar to achieve service delivery goals, strategic objectives and client expectations by: ensuring that all listings and hearing preparation practices comply with legislation, practice directions, policies and procedures critically reviewing existing practices to contribute to policy development, support the Tribunal's strategic priorities and achieve strategic milestones. continually reviewing Tribunal Registry operations to identify and implement improvements. Assist the Principal Registrar with compliance and performance monitoring, reporting, quality assurance and maintenance of the Tribunal's statutory register. Prepare reports and analysis of hearing and listing data for the Principal Registrar. Develop and provide authoritative advice on the Tribunal's procedures and functions to staff, members, advocates, public mental health service providers, consumers and stakeholders. Execute delegated statutory functions in accordance with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022. Coordinates and facilitates stakeholder management, particularly leading engagement activities to resolve stakeholder issues across health services, Departmental staff and Tribunal Members. Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies.
