Job type: Ongoing - Full Time Organisation: Department of Transport and Planning Occupation: Planning Reference: 6130 Job posted: 15/01/2025 Closes: 29/01/2025 Classification: VPSG5 Salary Range: $109,730 - $132,764 About the Role The Senior Transport Planner will support the Department’s Land Use Strategy team in shaping the integration of state significant land use proposals with the current and future transport system. The role will work collaboratively across the transport portfolio, other government departments and agencies (e.g., the Victorian Planning Authority) and local government to ensure best practice integrated land use and transport planning in Melbourne. Key Responsibilities Engage with key industries, portfolio agencies, government agencies, local government, local communities, and transport stakeholders to ensure successful integrated transport planning. Formulate the Department’s position, including in formal written submissions, and represent this in meetings with councils, planning authorities, developers, and landowners. Consider input from internal subject matter experts for strategic sites including intermodal freight terminals, airports, ports, and priority precincts. Provide direction post-approval of planning amendments, documenting outcomes and issues for Master Planning and Statutory Planning processes. Support the review of completed and future Precinct Structure Plans and Activity Centre Plans, addressing transport gaps and funding applications. Build relationships and negotiate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure transport and land use plans reflect the Department’s vision. Guide and mentor less experienced team members. Key Selection Criteria The successful candidate will have strong strategic planning skills, capable of thinking at a system-wide level and guiding others through the planning process. You will engage key stakeholders, consider various possibilities, and translate strategic goals into actionable plans. Communication skills are crucial for this role, as you will need to convey information clearly and persuasively and build trust with stakeholders. Stakeholder management is essential, identifying shared concerns and fostering partnerships to address needs. A proven track record in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication is required.
