Senior Tax Manager roles in TAL are required to work across all portfolios and tax subject areas, with each role having a key point of focus and providing backup to other areas. The Senior Tax Manager - Indirect Tax acts as a trusted partner to leaders across the TAL business, accountable for providing accurate, complete, and timely advice that delivers commercially sound and compliant solutions focusing on Indirect tax matters. This role is key in driving compliant outcomes with our key stakeholders and influencing commercial initiatives. The individual will take accountability for setting compliant requirements that other areas may be required to meet and for auditing compliance against these requirements. Incumbents in this role use their professional knowledge to deliver high-impact advice across Finance and TAL more broadly, influencing commercial decisions that TAL needs to address concerning Indirect tax matters. Key Accountabilities: Business (revenue) related tax accountabilities: Manage tax risk end to end throughout the Business in accordance with the TAL Risk Governance Framework as it relates to Indirect tax. Be responsible for setting requirements for the business to execute that ensure compliance against tax law. Ensure the TAL Group has robust systems, processes, and controls in place to meet all regulatory and customer tax compliance obligations. Advise and partner with TAL Business Unit leaders on matters such as: Goods & Services Tax Stamp Duty Fringe Benefits Tax Advisory support in relation to various Payroll initiatives. Drive indirect tax outcomes, particularly in relation to duty, for new products and strategic developments. Active engagement with key Regulators to ensure TAL is compliant. Explain the tax position to internal and external stakeholders. Manage internal and external audit reviews where applicable. Provide accurate, complete, and timely tax advice and services on a range of topics in support of commercial decisions with a focus on Indirect taxes. Implement new systems and processes and manage the integration of a new tax function for newly acquired businesses as required. Corporate related tax accountabilities: Manage tax risk end to end throughout the Business in accordance with the TAL Risk Governance Framework. Provide expert advice on matters related to Indirect tax (incl., GST, FBT, Stamp Duty). Ensure the accurate provision of a range of compliance deliverables for the TDA group. Ensure that current tax models and calculators are fit for purpose. Management of relevant returns, compliance, and reporting requirements. Manage the external auditors in relation to their tax reviews. Qualifications Knowledge and practical experience in applying Australia’s Corporate & Indirect Tax laws for a financial services business. Knowledge and experience of life insurance, funds management, custody or superannuation would be ideal. Understanding of ATO requirements and expectations. Understanding of various State Revenue Authorities requirements and expectations. Demonstrated ability to work with management in commercial issues. Experience in providing clear, confident tax advice to all types of stakeholders. Ability to translate tax law requirements into practical requirements for systems and processes. Confidence in working with accounting information and data. A hands-on approach to assignments. Qualifications in tax/tax law.
