Agency Purpose The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs. The AEC’s values and commitments The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism. The Team The Finance and Corporate Performance Branch is responsible for supporting the AEC to meet its obligations under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) for the efficient and effective use of public resources. The Branch consists of four sections: Financial Accounting and Services, Management Accounting, Corporate Performance and External Budgets and Strategic Sourcing and Systems. It is a fast-paced environment, but we have a great team who work well together, sharing knowledge and supporting each other in our day-to-day activities. Our activities encompass strategic financial management and advice, budget management including business support and finance partnering, financial services, reporting, administration of the AEC's Financial Management Information System, supporting the performance planning and reporting framework under the PGPA Act and leading the development of the agency’s Corporate Plan and Annual report. We also develop and deliver financial management training to enhance financial capacity and capability across the AEC. The branch strives on continuous improvement and is committed to providing high quality support and strategic advice to Senior Executives and across the agency. The Financial Accounting and Services team provides a wide range of financial services (such as accounts receivables/payables, travel, credit card and debt management) and treasury functions as well as financial accounting and reporting activities (end of month reporting, reconciliations and the preparation of the AEC’s annual financial statements). The Opportunity The Senior Travel Officer is part of a small team, working together to provide travel related support across the AEC. The role engages in and supervises the day-to-day work of the travel services officer. As the Senior Travel Officer, you are trusted to work your way in delivering on a range of travel and financial services functions, including assisting staff across the agency with booking issues, entering and resolving issues with travel in Expense8 (our travel management system), ensuring adherence to the relevant policy and supporting the Travel Services Officer in delivering travel support services to the agency. You will also be responsible for reviewing and processing travel allowances weekly. You will be supported by an Assistant Director and may also engage in financial services activities, when there is capacity. To excel you’ll have: Demonstrated knowledge of public sector financial management frameworks, travel processing activities, and finance functions. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, providing client focussed services and the ability to deliver high quality outcomes, within required timeframes, with a high level of integrity, accuracy, and impartiality to carrying out the role. Well-developed organisational and time management skills and the ability to complete tasks within tight deadlines. Well-developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide advice to stakeholders regarding public sector operations and legislation. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, while showing initiative, good judgement, and able to multi-task while achieving results. Eligibility AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
