Senior to Principal Mechanical Engineer (Australia Wide) – Water Industry In line with our steady growth strategy, GANDEN is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior to Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead and support critical Australian water infrastructure projects. This role focuses on the design and commissioning of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities, with an emphasis on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. The successful candidate will bring significant expertise and a deep understanding of water infrastructure, knowledge of local industry regulations, and a track record of delivering complex engineering solutions. This role requires in-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices specific to Australia's water sector. This position is open to applicants for any of our offices. Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical design and engineering of water and wastewater treatment systems, including process equipment, pumps and piping systems. Manage the mechanical aspects of large-scale water infrastructure projects, from concept design to commissioning and handover. Ensure all designs and solutions comply with Australian water industry standards and relevant regulations (e.g., WSAA Codes, AS/NZS standards). Conduct technical reviews, feasibility assessments, and risk analysis for mechanical systems in water projects. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including civil, process, structural and electrical engineers, contractors, and government authorities. Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using industry-standard design tools. Provide input to tender submissions, project scopes, and budget estimates. Oversee site activities during project execution, including installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems. Maintain a focus on safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship in all engineering practices. Mentor and support more junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical excellence. Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent); a Master’s degree will be highly regarded. At least 8-12 years of professional experience in the Australian water industry. Proven track record of designing and managing large-scale water infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumping, water and wastewater process equipment, piping design and materials selection for water applications. Proven experience and comprehensive understanding with water industry design standards, including WSAA codes and AS/NZS standards and regulatory requirements for water and wastewater infrastructure. Proficiency in performing mechanical and hydraulic design calculations. Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical skills. Strong technical writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and/or Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) certification preferred. Personal Attributes: Must have a team-orientated mentality. Proven experience in project management. Membership in professional organizations such as Engineers Australia or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
