Essence of the role The Level 5 Social Work Service Manager will lead the planning, management and delivery of Social Work Services in a manner that supports the provision of effective and efficient Social Work services to clients and their carers. Participate as a member of the HammondCare team and the local Allied Health leadership team in the application of the organisation’s Mission and values to the pursuit of its objectives in a client centred, continuous quality improvement work environment. Assist the Manager Allied Health Services, HammondCare Health and Hospitals in conjunction with Service Directors and NUMs, to determine the needs of each clinical unit and to plan and provide an appropriate level of Social Work staffing to meet those needs. Provide leadership, direction and management to the Social Work team in the performance of their duties and the provision of the highest standards of quality care to improve quality of life. Responsibilities Ensure a high standard of care Assess and treat patients with a high standard of professional practice, maintaining the ethics and standards of HammondCare and Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Ensure quality client care standards are maintained throughout Social Work services. Establish and support a culture of continuous improvement. Formulate, implement and monitor new clinical procedures, policies or programs in consultation with staff based on available evidence and current best practice. Build capacity to engage in evidence based research as appropriate. Ensure Social Work Service participation in education programmes for clients, their carers, health professionals and others. In consultation with the Manager Allied Health Services, contribute to hospital research activities and initiate research activities to advance the understanding and practice of Social Work in the specialist areas of the hospital. Carry a part-time clinical caseload. Support and facilitate the provision of Social Work services within other HammondCare service portfolios as required by Head of Allied Health. Operational Management Provide leadership, direction and co-ordination to Social Work staff across all HammondCare Health and Hospitals facilities. Establish and maintain an environment that promotes a culture of continuous improvement and devise plans and methods for ongoing quality assurance and improvement across the Social Work service. Function as a member of the H&H Allied Health Leadership Team to assist in the formulation of development plans, management philosophy and operational policies and procedures for the management of Allied Health Services. Provide advice in relation to the provision of Social Work services across HammondCare as required. Facilitates effective and mutually beneficial relationships through effective contribution and clear communication with stakeholders. Ensure all internal and external reporting requirements relating to the provision of Social Work services across Health & Hospitals are met. Facilitate regular meetings of the Social Work service to support open communication consistent with the organisation’s Mission in Action. Monitor and approve income and expenditure of Social Work Services within the established delegated authorities. Implement opportunities for staff to provide feedback and participate in service development. Ensure the Social Work Service operates in accordance with the legal and ethical requirements of HammondCare and AASW. Participate in service planning within clinical units in collaboration with Manager Allied Health, senior nursing staff and Clinical Directors and implementing and monitoring those plans. About you Commitment to engage and align with HammondCare’s Christian Mission, Motivation and Mission in Action. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work as recognised by AASW. Demonstrated practical experience in the provision of Social Work services in a Rehabilitation, Palliative Care and/or within a sub-acute setting. Experience across inpatient and outpatient/community settings would be desirable. Demonstrated experience supervising a Social Work team. Demonstrated management competencies including service planning, resource management and leading staff. Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Aged Care Sectors including funding and policy protocols, accreditation and industrial legislation. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated organisation and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experienced in operating effectively in a multi-site environment. A current drivers licence and safe driving record. Willingness to travel between HammondCare’s sites and services. Strong administrative and computer skills.
