Software Engineer/Developer (APS4), Data Sourcing Division Salary: $72,973 - $82,080 (plus 15.4% superannuation and allowances) Several permanent and temporary positions; full-time or part-time hours; flexible working arrangements. The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to fill several Software Engineer/Developer roles in our Data Sourcing Division within the Survey Instrument Build Team. About the roles The role of the Survey Instrument Build Team is to develop and maintain electronic surveys using the Confirmit Platform. These surveys will be used by ABS Interviewers and members of the public to provide data to the ABS in order to help us produce important statistics and insights to inform decision making. The responsibilities of a Software Engineer/Developer may include: Engaging with clients to ensure that specifications for survey instruments are fit for purpose, and that these are achievable in the ABS infrastructure in the required timelines. Developing survey instruments to ABS standards; this includes building new data collection instruments, rolling forward existing collections to new reference periods, and updating existing builds to current standards using the ABS Confirmit environment. Ensuring rigour around development and release standards is maintained and that knowledge base documentation is kept up to date; draw on expertise of the team and key support areas in technical services. Working with the relevant testing teams to help shape test plans and resolution of any exceptions encountered during the testing phase. Diagnosing issues encountered during pre-production testing. Considering user experience and accessibility guidelines in our survey instruments. Contributing to general team health by actively participating in all agreed team ceremonies and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives within the team context. What we are looking for (selection criteria) To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience: An understanding of and demonstrated experience using Javascript/jQuery and HTML/CSS. Tertiary level software engineering qualifications and/or at least six months’ relevant experience. Ability to communicate clearly and deliver messages in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in written format. Sound conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to critically assess complex information and develop innovative solutions. Ability to understand the work environment and operational factors to ensure results are delivered. Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and sustain positive working relationships to achieve team goals. Desirable but not essential: Experience and/or ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders. Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2 (WCAG).
