Job Description

Speed Management Data and Evaluation Officer The Department of Transport and Planning oversees key planning, transport and land use policy decisions and management across the State. Road Safety Victoria is a Division of the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for leading the Victorian Government to achieve Zero road fatalities by 2050. About the Role This is a Fixed Term, full-time position until 31st December 2026. The Speed Management Data and Evaluation Officer will be responsible for reporting, monitoring, and evaluating the outcomes of speed zoning changes in Victoria. The role will operate within existing systems while also developing new tools and processes to track the outputs and outcomes of speed zone changes across various programs and initiatives to inform future decision-making. Additionally, the role will involve collaboration with internal DTP stakeholders, local governments, and external vendors to enhance existing systems and integrate new tools, improving and optimising the delivery of speed management in Victoria. This role requires specialised data and analytical skills, along with strong stakeholder communication abilities. Position Outcomes The successful candidate would need to effectively analyze and translate road network data, including infrastructure attributes, movement classifications, and speed zone information, to generate insights for speed management. By applying best practices in data modelling and reporting, they have successfully integrated datasets across the transport portfolio, providing clear and actionable insights to support decision-making. They will require to communicate complex data findings through Power BI and other visualization tools, simplifying key messages for stakeholders. With strong problem-solving skills and independent data verification, they will have to collaborate with the Road Safety Data and Insights team to address complex challenges while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and promoting a safe, inclusive, and flexible team environment. May have expertise in formulation basic data models or algorithms. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (Accomplished) - Takes into account wider business context within business unit when considering options to resolve issues. Identifies recurring problems and prevents future recurrence by integrating solutions into work process. Delivers tangible business outcomes as a result of critically evaluating problems from multiple perspectives and delivering effective solutions. Project Delivery (Applied) - Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes; Coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities; Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required. Communicate with impact (Applied) - Prepares and delivers logical sequential and succinct presentations; Uses clear and concise language; Uses media appropriate to the audience and presents information to develop the understanding of the topic. In addition to the above, the incumbent requires to foster a positive community impact by monitoring outcomes, promotes collaboration through teamwork and information sharing, and demonstrates adaptability by embracing changing priorities and working effectively across organizations. Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Appropriate tertiary qualifications in related field. Experience relevant to the capabilities of the role. Strong experience in management of data - analysis, reporting and communicating. Technical competency in spatial software and data (Esri preferred). Substantial stakeholder management experience within government - a sound grasp of how government works and how to access information across different government entities.
