We are seeking an experienced State Manager to oversee operations across the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland, with the role based in Darwin. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in some of the most vibrant and remote communities in Australia.About the role: As the State Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing retail operations across Indigenous communities in remote regions of the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland. Based out of Darwin, you’ll oversee store performance, build meaningful relationships with local communities, and ensure that our services and products are tailored to meet the specific needs of these communities. This role combines leadership, cultural awareness, operational management, and a hands-on approach to business development. Your direct reports will consist of up to six regional managers with an expectation that you will be boots on the ground in the communities alongside your team.Key Responsibilities: Community Engagement & Cultural Sensitivity: Develop and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and local leaders, ensuring that our offerings align with cultural values and meet local needs. Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Regional and Store Managers and staff, including those in remote locations, to ensure operational efficiency and high performance. Operational Excellence: Oversee daily operations, ensuring stores are stocked, meet company standards for customer service, and run smoothly even in the most challenging environments. Product & Service Customization: Work with local teams to tailor product offerings based on the specific needs of each community, ensuring that the right products are available and culturally relevant. Sales & Performance Strategy: Drive growth in sales and store performance, implementing targeted strategies to support communities and increase foot traffic in remote areas. Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, control costs, and ensure that stores operate within financial targets, while accounting for the unique challenges of remote retail environments. Logistics & Supply Chain Management: Collaborate with logistics teams to address the complexities of supply chain management in remote areas, ensuring consistent product availability. Compliance & Reporting: Ensure that all operations comply with company policies, government regulations, and community agreements. Provide regular reports on performance and opportunities to senior management. Stakeholder Engagement: Forge strong relationships with Indigenous organizations, local leaders, government bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure that our operations contribute positively to the development and sustainability of the communities we serve. What We’re Looking For: Experience in Remote Indigenous Communities: Proven experience managing operations or projects in remote Indigenous communities, with a deep understanding of cultural and economic sensitivities will be highly regarded. Leadership & Team Management: Demonstrated experience leading and inspiring teams in diverse, often challenging environments, with a focus on remote and regional operations. Retail & FMCG Expertise: Extensive experience in retail operations, including inventory management, sales growth, and financial oversight, preferably in a remote setting. Cultural Competence & Sensitivity: A genuine commitment to understanding and working with Indigenous communities, with experience in building trust and fostering collaboration. Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Ability to navigate the complexities of remote retail environments, managing logistics, operations, and community engagement effectively. Strong Stakeholder & Relationship Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, from local community leaders to corporate executives. Willingness to Travel: The role requires regular travel to remote communities across the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland, with a hands-on approach to leadership and operations.
