About the role As a Student Wellbeing Mentor in the ‘Bounce Back’ arm of the Student Wellbeing and Education Program (S.WE.E.P.), you will be supporting young people within a school setting to navigate emotional challenges, set and achieve meaningful goals, and successfully reintegrate into the classroom environment. This position involves targeted individual support delivery, mentoring, goal setting, small-group facilitation and supporting young people to utilise strategies to re-engage with the classroom. This role is based on self or school-based referrals, sits within the school, and emphasises a proactive and collaborative approach to addressing the unique emotional and behavioural needs of students. Develop and implement personalized strategies to help students recognize and manage their emotions effectively. Foster a safe and non-judgmental space for open communication, ensuring students feel heard and understood. Provide one-on-one or group support to young individuals referred for emotional regulation assistance. Collaborate with students to identify short-term and long-term goals, both academically and personally. Encourage a growth mindset, resilience, and self-efficacy through goal-oriented interventions. Work closely with school staff, teachers, and parents to understand the specific challenges faced by each student. Provide ongoing communication and feedback to ensure a seamless transition and sustained progress, including referrals to internal school supports as needed. About You Completed minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services or higher. Experience working with young people aged 12-18. Experience working with or alongside the Australian school system. Experience engaging young people positively and promoting resilience and independence for young people. Ability to effectively facilitate group discussion and activities. Ability to work independently without direct supervision. Understanding of the barriers and issues faced by vulnerable young people. Demonstrated understanding of, and respect for, people from multicultural communities, people with a disability, diverse families, LGBTQIA+ communities, and those living with complex mental health conditions.
