In Perth, Flowbird’s local hardware and software engineers support Perth and regional West Australia’s current public transport solution. Our solution is going through a major multi-phase upgrade project, and we need a System Operations Engineer to join our team to work with us to deliver this solution. What does a System Operations Engineer do? A System Operations Engineer has an engineering, technical, and analytical background. Your responsibilities will evolve as our project progresses, so we need you to be flexible, however the primary activities you will be involved in include: Learning and understanding our devices, software, and back office solutions Testing our products; this will be in our office, in our customer’s facility, and even out on site This is a big project with a lot of devices, so you will be loading and testing our software to make sure it is ready to go live in the public domain Once up and running, the solution will need remote support and monitoring, so operational awareness and status reporting will become a major role for the project Faults happen, so we need you to have strong incident management and customer service skills; solving problems or gathering data and reporting the fault to the appropriate team are essential abilities for your role When changes need to be made, we will need you to follow change management procedures; these require your documentation skills and focus Attention to detail in following business processes and adhering to policies are vitally important to the successful delivery of our solutions Having commercial awareness is valuable for identifying further business opportunities, and adhering to SLAs/KPIs Across all areas of your work you will need strong written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills Finally, professionalism with your colleagues, our customers, and our suppliers is paramount to working in a harmonious and respectful environment What will you be working with? A broad range of skills goes a long way to being a key member of our growing team. Flowbird work with a variety of hardware and software architectures, operating systems, applications, tools, and technologies, including: Microsoft Windows, Office, and Server, with Google Workspace and Android Microsoft SQL and Oracle Databases, SharePoint, Team Foundation Server JIRA, ServiceNow, Datadog, BI Tools, VMWare Virtual Machines and vSphere Wireless, cellular, and fixed network communications to industry standards Software development lifecycles, technology and security protocols, and banking payments Who will you be working with? Flowbird’s international business means there’s a diverse and friendly team of colleagues across the country and the world who you’ll be working with: Flowbird Perth, our small but growing team focussed on supporting our existing solution and preparing our major project activities in Perth; you’ll report to our General Manager of WA Flowbird Sydney, our small team of specialised staff supporting all of our APAC projects, which as well as Perth includes Sydney, Canberra, and developing new business across the region Flowbird UK, our largest office of staff for all of our public transport project needs Our APAC customers; these are local state government transport authorities, and the public transport operators which run the services Our suppliers and service contractors who play a crucial role in supporting our deliveries Why should you apply for this job at Flowbird?
