What you will do to contribute to the company's success Maintain high-quality connectivity by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC, and fiber optic networks, and the Home Terminal Units. Support customers by repairing local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment, using electronic test equipment. Read and interpret system/network design maps, verify as-built documentation, and report findings following Company standard process. Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optics cables, mount active and passive devices, both aerial and underground, and test to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant. Perform surveys to determine if customer-requested locations can receive service and create maps/drawings for estimating costs for plant/drop extensions. Perform underground facility locates using plant maps and electronic locating equipment to prevent cable damage and service interruptions. Perform construction maintenance duties, including splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber optic cables and equipment to restore cable plant to system specifications. Continuously monitor plant for ingress/egress and perform signal leakage ride-out activities. Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management. Qualifications One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position. A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and other related test equipment. Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system. Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed. The position requires the ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or when on-call. Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
