ABOUT THE ROLE This position is accountable for providing technical support, advice and recommendations to ensure the effective operations of Engineering and Fabrication programs, including Fee for Service and Short Courses across all delivery campuses. The position is expected to ensure the appropriate allocation of Engineering and Fabrication materials and resources to support the delivery of programs, drawing upon qualifications, knowledge and experience gained from the Engineering and Fabrication industry, its processes and practices. The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Engineering team and will also assist in the promotion of regular Engineering programs ensuring that customer service standards are maintained. A key deliverable of this role is to oversee issues relating to OH&S for areas within Engineering and respond to the procedures identified within government regulations. The Technical Officer also supports and facilitates safe workshop access and use for students. Technical Officers are expected to liaise on a regular basis with the other technicians across the business area, both on and across campus, to maintain standards and consistency of system operations. ABOUT YOU You are a highly motivated individual with well-developed skills, qualifications and experience in: Relevant Vocational Qualification (Engineering - Mechanical or Fabrication trade) Current driver's license Ability to carry out hands-on technical activities, coupled with demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools (such as power tools) Demonstrated computer skills across systems including Microsoft and Adobe C.S Sound understanding of OH&S issues in relation to materials, equipment and practices. Experience in stock control, basic financial control and data collection procedures Demonstrated experience in working in a team-based environment, participating in extensive and/or rapid change in systems and processes Ability to be self-motivated and to work independently and to have a focus relating to problem-solving and innovation Having a high regard and a focus for detail on using both interpersonal and networking skills with the intent of maintaining quality customer relations and service standards Proven ability to deliver technical support in studios (in areas of Sculpture, Printmaking, Computer labs, Photo lighting).
