Job Description

Telecommunications Technician - Contract Telecommunications Technicians install, maintain and repair telecommunications equipment and appliances, such as telephones, mobile telephones, switchboards and data transmission equipment, in homes, businesses, telephone exchanges and other network sites. Tasks Locates faults in telecommunications equipment using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters and transmission measuring equipment. Attaches wires and cables to appliances. Adjusts, replaces and repairs faulty items, and tests equipment using electronic instruments. Installs telecommunications equipment and appliances such as telephones, switchboards and data transmission equipment. The Communications Technician role is responsible for the provision and life cycle support of mission critical communications systems and hardware for a WA state government Emergency Services department's front-line operations. Carries out essential maintenance and support activities on fixed site infrastructure and mobile assets, including land mobile vehicles, marine vessels and aerial appliances to ensure operational readiness and support public safety, which requires significant travel throughout the state. Responsibilities Undertake installation, testing and staging of radio communication equipment, in the communication facilities and other fixed facilities as instructed. Undertake configuration of radio communication & electronic equipment as instructed. Assist with the basic construction of specialised radio equipment and the associated mechanical support arrangements. Assist with the preparation of technical facilities documentation. Contribute to the analysis and evaluation of technical issues, practices and/or procedures to identify potential improvements for recommendation and further consideration. Provide basic technical advice and support about radio terminal devices to operational divisions. Participate in relevant equipment-specific training as provided by the vendor or manufacturer. Assist in the receipt, dispatch and audit of stores items, including the upkeep of associated documentation, systems and reports. Contribute to progressing the flow & movement of equipment in/out stores and facilities, in line with defined strategies. Where required, coordinate and supervise the daily activities of project team and external service providers in stores/facilities. Ensure compliance with the Agency’s and relevant health & safety policies, procedures and processes. Qualifications Electronic engineering, telecommunications or equivalent trade certificate. Possession of a current WA motor driver’s licence class “C”. Possession of an ACMA Base Cabling licence. Possession of a current Restricted Electrical Workers’ Licence – RE.
