Dawson Stud is a boutique 200 acre horse stud, situated at Myalup on the coast in the South West region of Western Australia between Mandurah and Bunbury. The property is the idyllic horse location and has been developed to the highest standards which accommodates Broodmares and agistment of spelling racehorses. The Stud Manager position offered requires the services of a true horse person with extensive thoroughbred experience who is looking to work at an elite level. Reporting to the Owner you will be responsible to nurture our horses to reach their optimum assuming responsibility for: Ensuring safe working practices at the stud at all times. Overseeing the well-being of horses including feeding, education, grooming, early diagnosis and remedy of any health or conformational issues. An understanding of foal conformation and corrective farrier work. Administering basic treatments and assisting vet, farrier and dentist as required. Caring for pregnant mares and their foals including foaling down pregnant mares. Sound understanding of the broodmare reproductive system to facilitate the organisation and record keeping involved with vetting during the breeding season. Handling and ongoing education of foals/yearlings as well as a good understanding of the weaning process. Preparing of weanlings/yearlings for sale to the highest standard, attending the sales and managing freelance/part-time staff during this period. Liaising with horse trainers and other industry participants including attending sales events. Floating and transporting horses as required. Maintenance and upkeep of paddocks and fencing. Managing a small team and timely reporting to a professional standard. This is a hands-on role which is supported by a farmhand plus additional part-time support staff during yearling preparations. The successful candidate will possess: Extensive thoroughbred knowledge with several years’ experience. Good health and physically fit to undertake horse handling and farm work. Highly motivated with a pro-active can-do attitude and desire to achieve exceptional results. Excellent communication, time management, attention to detail and organisational skills. Computer literate. Commitment to adhere to safe working practices at all times. Ability to positively encourage staff and educate them about horse care. The successful candidate will be offered a salary package including a modern 3 bedroom house located on the property and a fully maintained company vehicle.
