Job Description

This role will facilitate and maintain compliance of commercial and industrial sewage discharges with the City’s Trade Waste Management Plan and relevant legislation. This role performs the assessment of trade waste applications, the inspection of trade waste installations and investigation of trade waste related matters to ensure compliance with the permit conditions and legislation with advice from Senior Plumbing Inspector (Trade Waste) and under the direction of the Coordinator Hydraulics. The team consists of Plumbing Inspectors, Senior Plumbing Inspectors, the Functional Lead Hydraulics Assessment, the Coordinator Hydraulics and the Team Manager Development Assessment. The position also works in a broader multi-discipline section including Planning, Engineering, and Assets Teams where collaboration is essential in making informed land use decisions. The position requires good communication skills and negotiation with a variety of stakeholders to balance land use outcomes for the City. About You Our ideal candidate will have: Certificate IV Water Operations (Trade Waste), trade qualifications, or other relevant qualification/s. Extensive knowledge of trade waste management including pre-treatment installation, servicing requirements, sewer admission limits and specifying discharge conditions. Extensive knowledge of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act and associated regulations, codes and standards. Thorough knowledge of other related legislation, i.e. Plumbing and Drainage Act, Local Government Act, Environmental Protection Act, Water Act, and Workplace Health and Safety Act. Ability to carry out investigations associated with trade waste matters. Ability to provide sound technical advice to government agencies, representative groups, general public, development industry, Council departments and other stakeholders on trade waste issues. Ability to review publications, changes to legislation and changes in technology with a commitment to continuous improvement. Current “C” class driver’s licence.
