Underwriter – Industry Lines - Marine Property & Liability NM Insurance is a highly regarded, leading insurance underwriting agency operating across Australia and New Zealand. We proudly employ over 100 staff in these regions and distribute, via our partners, insurance across many recreational and commercial insurance lines. Our brands include Nautilus Marine Insurance, Australian Caravan Insurance, National Motorcycle Insurance and Proteus Marine Insurance. Derivatives of these product lines, via white label brands, are supporting major international and local retailers and manufacturers to assist their customer’s needs. With binding and claims authority provided by major local insurers, NM Insurance is well positioned to achieve its strategic goals. We are looking for a professional insurance underwriter to join our business and be a part of our dynamic hybrid working environment, offering exciting incentives, with a close focus on culture. This role is a direct report to our Head of Underwriting - Industry Lines and will have you performing underwriting functions, engaging with insurer partners, brokers, as well as internal development staff. You will be also empowered with underwriting authority and expected to deliver continued strong underwriting profits, including executing outcomes for key account and strategic business opportunities. This role is to grow and underwrite within both a well-established, and fast-growing portfolio within our group, including: Providing a quality underwriting service (New Business and Renewals) in line with NM Group and partner insurers underwriting philosophy and practices to maintain a profitable risk portfolio. Consider and underwrite risks as per Underwriting Guidelines while adhering to your nominated Underwriting Authorities provided by insurer partners. Exceed minimum compliance standards set both internally by compliance leaders, and externally by regulators, across both Australia and New Zealand. Assist the Team with administration tasks including sending declarations, credit control and as required. Ensure a robust, professional and customer-centric client experience. Promote and encourage development of the business through market feedback and client needs. Assist the BDM and Managers to service intermediaries where and when required. Knowledge of IT systems to coordinate support functions including Word and Excel. Support a set of established cultural behaviors including a positive attitude and working as part of a team. We expect you to have the following experience and attributes: 3+ years of commercial lines insurance underwriting experience (Property and Casualty). An in-depth knowledge of general insurance underwriting philosophies, approaches and technologies. An understanding of the marine and boating industry (preferred). Previous experience in a similar role with delegated underwriting authority (preferred). Key attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, customers, stakeholders at all levels of the business. Strong relationship management skills. A flexible attitude to various responsibilities and tasks. Team Player who is self-driven and motivated.
