We are looking for the right person to fill a temporary ‘maternity leave’ position for four to five months to work with our team at Path 2 Change (P2C) . This opportunity offers to make a difference in the lives of at-risk young people who may be experiencing homelessness. P2C is a grassroots organisation and provides unique and specialised support services for young people in our region. P2C is a Specialist Homelessness Service (SHS) funded by Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to aid young people’s capacity to access/maintain education, training, and employment opportunities to prevent the cycle of homelessness. P2C operates from a 'person-centred strengths-based' philosophy and within a 'Trauma Informed Care framework' and is committed to empowering young people and creating opportunities to make informed choices about their lives. P2C Youth caseworkers are dedicated to helping complex young people to make the right connections in line with their skills and abilities, passion, and drive, which leads to increased success in sustaining education, training & employment, and in the longer term preventing homelessness. We operate under ‘No wrong Door’ ensuring anyone experiencing homelessness is assisted and/or referred to appropriate services if required. The P2C Youth caseworker will undertake client-centred case planning, develop strategies to address barriers, refer and advocate, coach and mentor young people towards achieving positive education/training and employment outcomes. The Youth Caseworker team works collaboratively with their Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) partners to provide holistic care to ensure young people transition into independence successfully. P2C Youth caseworkers liaise with local education, training, and businesses to develop relationships to ensure clients are well supported and enhance opportunities for work experience or employment. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Tertiary or degree qualifications in Youth Work, Community Welfare, Social Science, or a relevant discipline and/or minimum 5 years experience working with complex youth. Demonstrated experience and highly developed skills in the Case Management of complex young people using a client-centred, strengths-based and Trauma Informed Care approach. Demonstrated experience with supporting and linking young people with education, training and employment opportunities in the local area (Newcastle, Hunter, Lake Macquarie & Port Stephens). Demonstrated knowledge of specialist Education, Training and Employment providers in the local area. Demonstrated knowledge of Specialist Youth Services including Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS), OOHC, Disability, Counselling, Drug & Alcohol, Mental Health, Health, and Legal services and their operations/services. High level of professionalism with excellent team, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. Interviewing, accidental counselling, advocacy, negotiation, networking, and problem-solving skills. Writing skills - computer data entry on Government reporting portal, including Case plans, Case notes and Report writing skills. Highly developed teamwork skills and a demonstrated ability to work independently. Current First Aid certificate. Current Driver's licence. Current Working with Children's Check. Current Police Check. Police Check prior to commencement of position. The position is 32 hours per week (Permanent Part-time) with flexible working hours.
