Youth Transition Officer - Student Child and Family Connect Education (Organisation site)Disability, Inclusion and Student Services Branch - Schools and Student Support Division An exciting opportunity exists for 2 permanent full-time Youth Transition Officer roles within the South East Region Department of Education, Student Child and Family Connect team. This role is a part of the Education Justice Initiative and provides crucial services to those children and young people who present before the Children's Court at Southport and require support in securing a transition to education, training and/or employment. Applicants should have a strong knowledge of the youth justice system, education pathways and be adept at facilitating complex transitions for vulnerable youth. About the Role: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Work with and support the needs of vulnerable young people from diverse and complex backgrounds, including First Nations young persons, young persons with disability and young persons in care. Support schools to interpret and enact departmental policies, practices and procedures relating to vulnerable young people to ensure they remain engaged in education. Provide support to schools that will assist in the development and implementation of successful retention and transition strategies and programs that will improve the education outcomes for vulnerable students. Collate confidential information, identifying needs and barriers to formulate the basis for activities required to support the young person's transition to the education or training pathway. Forge links with external government departments, community agencies and training organisations to ensure young people in the youth justice system receive the appropriate support. Assist Court Liaison Officers in supporting young people in the youth justice system to engage, or reengage, with education and training.
