When our children and young people thrive, so do our communities and our state.About the Role: Children’s Centres for Early Childhood Development and Parenting provide a statewide network of integrated health, family support, education, and care services hubs to families with young children with a focus on the first 1000 days of life. This initiative plays a key approach in enhancing early childhood development outcomes. The Children’s Centre Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology program, delivered through Student Support Services, provides both universal and targeted support to families with young children to promote children’s development, responsive caregiving, and ameliorate developmental difficulties and reduce impacts of disadvantage. This is achieved through collaborating with families and children’s centre colleagues to provide a broad range of professional, direct, and indirect services at the individual, group, and whole site level. As a key member of the interdisciplinary team, the Senior Occupational Therapist contributes to clinical governance, provides supervision, and offers professional support and development to Occupational Therapists working in Children’s Centres and Student Support Services across the state. The Senior Occupational Therapist works closely with the AHP2 Occupational Therapists, Children’s Centres Leaders, and the Senior Speech Pathologist to ensure the delivery of quality high-quality integrated services to support family functioning and improve child development. The Senior Occupational Therapist is responsible for professional practice and service delivery standards specific to occupational therapy in Children’s Centres, providing discipline-specific knowledge for the implementation, development, and evaluation of occupational therapy services within Children’s Centres. Reporting to Statewide Services Operations Manager, the position is supervised by the Principal Occupational Therapist. The Senior Occupational Therapist will connect with other Occupational Therapists routinely and build relationships to support their professional growth and service delivery. Student Support Services are on a cultural response journey; as such, we value and prioritise Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing, and being.Qualifications: Essential: An appropriate degree in occupational therapy or other appropriate qualification, giving eligibility for practicing membership of the Occupational Therapy Association of Australia. Special Conditions: The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed, which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course, which will be required to be updated every three years.
