Salary: $91,702 - $104,753 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Location: Garden Island - NSW The Role The Safety Team Leader (STL) is accountable under broad direction from the Deputy Director Safety and Quality (DDSQ) to undertake complex work health and safety activities within a framework of legislation, policies, established principles, work practices and procedures. Implement and monitor compliance and assurance activities conducted by FSU. Deliver WHS support and advice to Regional Units. Investigate and report incidents. Undertake specialist research and analysis as directed, to support the broader team to initiate improvements to business practices. Develop procedures, briefs, minutes and reports as required. Represent DDSQ as required. Coordinate Occupational Hygiene activities. About our Team The mission of Fleet Support Unit – Australia (FSU-AUST) is to provide Australia-wide maintenance repair, overhaul and technical services to Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG) and Royal Australian Navy, and by doing so also increase technical mastery of our personnel. FSU-AUST is geographically dispersed in five regional offices across four states and made up of approximately 800 technical sailors and a small number of APS staff. Each regional office has one uniformed WHS Manager and one Quality Manager. We are the largest employer of technical sailors in the Navy and maintain a large number of secondments with industry suppliers to upskill our workforce. In concert with highly skilled staff, FSU maintains significant engineering facilities and capabilities, which are used to generate extensive sustainment cost savings to Defence. The National Office is located on Garden Island NSW, and comprises approximately 40 team members headed by the Executive Director with the support of four Deputy Directors, including the Deputy Director Safety and Quality (DDSQ). The regional WHSM and QM work closely with the DDSQ and the Safety Team Leader. Our ideal candidate will bring the following attributes and skills to the role: Experience working in a similar role ensuring the alignment of legislative, policy, procedures and compliance frameworks. Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, focusing on identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills. Ability to monitor, manage and report on the organisation’s risk and compliance. Comfortable building and sustaining relationships, liaising with a range of stakeholders including other teams, contractors and colleagues across Defence and other organisations. Engagement in incident management, coordinating and performing detailed or sensitive investigation reports. Understanding of procurement and contract management.
