For more information about our agency, please visit: Department of State Development | statedevelopment.sa.gov.au About the role: The Population Strategy and Migration Team is responsible for migration policy and migration programs, to meet critical skill shortages in the local labour market; as well as entrepreneurs, business and investors to establish a presence in South Australia and contribute to our economic prosperity. As Principal Policy Officer, you will lead the development and continuous improvement of policies to inform development of state migration programs, which support the Department’s migration, skilled workforce, innovation, population and international education objectives. In this role, you will work closely with the Manager of Migration Policy to deliver high-quality analysis on challenges facing skilled migration that will support South Australian businesses in the context of a rapidly evolving national migration reform agenda. More specifically, you will build and foster collaborative relationships across State and Commonwealth agencies, target industry sectors, and other non-government organisations. You will deliver expert advice and develop complex analysis reports and briefing papers, to significantly influence and inform critical decision making, resource allocation and future directions, on an Agency, State and National level. You will also: Ensure the delivery of innovative and responsive policies for South Australia’s General Skilled Migration program, with a particular focus on supporting the State to address its skilled workforce challenges. Develop a business case to the Commonwealth Government to establish a Designated Area Migration Agreement for South Australia to support employers to access the workers they need. Contribute to the development of a coherent strategy for the State for employer-sponsored migration, including reflecting the changes announced through the Commonwealth Government's Migration Strategy, and providing input into the development of the Essential Skills Pathway of the new Skills in Demand visa. Lead the delivery of policy actions under the Department’s Attraction, Connection and Retention Strategy for skilled migration. Provide high quality research, data analysis, strategic policy advice and briefings on a variety of skilled migration challenges for the consideration of the Chief Executive, Minister, senior officials and ministerial committees at state and national levels. Key Competencies: To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate: Significant experience in government policy, provision of policy advice, analysis, reports, and timely briefings on significant policy issues to executive and senior levels across the public and private sectors. Experience in building relationships, with a track record of effective collaboration across diverse stakeholders at both executive and operational levels. Strong conceptual and policy analytical thinking abilities, with a capacity to interpret and synthesise disparate information at the macro level. Sound knowledge of recent policies and trends in the Australian and South Australian migration system and an understanding of the associated key state, national and international policies and trends and influences. You will also have the proven ability to think strategically and creatively to provide high level policy analysis and solutions to complex issues and exercise high level judgement, identify and establish goals and priorities to operate with broad direction. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to negotiate and liaise effectively at senior levels (across government and non-government sectors) will be key to your success. Remuneration: Competitive salary $108,109 min to $116,864 max pa plus superannuation.
