Part time (21 hours per week), fixed term position until 30th June 2026. Located at the Blue Mountains (eg. Katoomba) and Western Sydney Area, (Parramatta and Penrith) GambleAware offices Exciting opportunity to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities by fostering culturally aware care and building meaningful partnerships to address gambling impacts. About the opportunity The School of Psychology is currently seeking an Aboriginal Community Engagement and Support Officer to work in partnership to assist and serve Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in the Blue Mountains and Western Sydney area, impacted by gambling. They will guide and support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to engage with the GambleAware program and will assist in referrals to the service and build relationships with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations. The position will advise and guide GambleAware staff and partners in providing culturally aware care and services to better support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The role will maintain a partnership with the Aboriginal Safe Gambling Service (ASG) receiving support from the ASG and collaborating as required. Your key responsibilities will be to: Engage, assist and support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to use the GambleAware program. Build linkages and relationships with local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, collaborating to reduce gambling harm for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Develop referral pathways for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to use the GambleAware program, NSW Aboriginal Safe Gambling Services and other GambleAware services in NSW. Guide GambleAware staff and partners in providing culturally aware care and services to better support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Complete required entry of data and reports related to community engagement work. Attend meetings, forums and training as determined by management. Strong interpersonal skills, evident in the ability to establish and maintain relationships with consumers, GambleAware staff and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. Experience in developing and/or attending Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community engagement events. Experience in cultivating and maintaining relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisations. Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer literacy. A current unrestricted NSW driver's license, with the ability to travel in accordance with position responsibilities. This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). To be eligible for this position, you must provide a statement and supporting documentation that addresses how you meet each of the following criteria for Aboriginality: Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and Be accepted as such by the community in which they live or have lived. Supporting documentation may include, but is not limited to, a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
