The Role This role exists to work with park managers in building strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across NSW, increase cultural awareness amongst the Reflections workforce, and develop cultural tourism initiatives with First Nations people that improve our guests’ experience and cultural understanding, while delivering positive economic and social outcomes for First Nations communities via a partnership approach. The Aboriginal Engagement Officer will deliver the cultural outcomes, including: developing strong relationships with First Nations communities, increasing the cultural awareness and understanding of the Reflections workforce, and introducing guests to cultural tourism experiences that enhance their experience and appreciation of First Nations people’s continuing connection to the lands and waterways, while partnering with First Nations communities to achieve social and economic outcomes. About You The successful candidate will be able to: Develop relationships with the Traditional Custodians and Aboriginal-owned cultural tourism businesses in the areas in which we operate. Contribute to increased cultural awareness and understanding amongst our staff to help them engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally sensitive way. Identify cultural tourism opportunities for our parks, and develop agreements between Aboriginal cultural tourism operators and Reflections, and work with park managers to implement cultural tourism experiences for guests. Actively contribute as a member of the Reflections Reconciliation Working Group. Essential requirements of this role: A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. in education, business, arts, project management or social sciences) or equivalent work experience. A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures and a demonstrated ability to communicate and work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Experience developing partnerships between an organization and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that deliver cultural experiences for the broader community. Experience delivering plans or strategies that deliver positive, measurable outcomes. An ability to plan and prioritize your workload. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience giving presentations, writing reports, and developing strong relationships with a range of stakeholders. Experience in delivering projects with multiple priorities and competing deadlines, and an ability to demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and flexibility. C-Class Drivers Licence. Ability to travel within NSW and stay away overnight. Desirable: Experience in tourism or hospitality. Experience working with community, business and government stakeholders to deliver shared outcomes. Experience with Reconciliation Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan framework.
