76,277 - $104,753 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Edinburgh - SA The Role The Advanced Warhead Technologies (AWT) group within the Sensor and Effectors Division requires the services of a mechanical tradesperson capable of performing precision machining, CNC operations, welding, resin casting, and 3-D prototyping. This role provides immediate support to the experimental and trials work programs run by the AWT group. The technician will provide precision machinist support to the experimental programs and field trials conducted within the AWT group and other groups situated in the Explosives Ordnance Precinct (EOP). Typically, the technician is required to make last-minute changes or modifications to components or manufacture necessary hardware during the actual conduct of the experimental programs, with a large portion of the required work needing to be delivered within very short timelines. The successful candidate will also be required to routinely attend and support remote field trials at locations such as the Proof and Experimental Establishment Port Wakefield and Woomera Test Range. About our Team The AWT group is based at Defence Science and Technology (DST) Group - Edinburgh, South Australia. It provides a sovereign R&D capability to design, prototype, and characterize advanced warheads and energetic materials to transform future ADF warfighting capabilities. The AWT group comprises chemists, engineers, physicists, and various technical specialists who conduct R&D focused on novel warhead concepts for advanced weapon systems and emerging and disruptive energetic materials technologies. The majority of the work is conducted in a variety of on-site laboratories and facilities, with testing at various ADF test ranges throughout the country. Our Ideal Candidate The mechanical tradesperson/precision machinist will have the following skills: Ability to act under limited direction and determine the best manufacturing processes. Experience with high precision machining, e.g., warhead, fuze, and vacuum components. Experience with NC machine tools with and without Conversational Controllers, e.g., lathes, mills, and wire cutters. Understanding of and experience with machine cutting tools. Use of casting molds and associated vacuum systems. Ability to understand and produce detailed engineering drawings. Examples of typical components that they may be required to manufacture/modify/assemble include: Transducer and gauge mounts. Casting molds and pressing dies. Warhead casings and other associated hardware. Bespoke tooling used in the assembly/disassembly of munitions. Experience in independently managing and maintaining mechanical fabrication workshops. WHS awareness and ability to train others on processes/equipment in accordance with WHS requirements. #J-18808-Ljbffr
