About the team The Property and Place branch sits within the department’s Enabling and Business Services Group. We are responsible for strategic and operational focussed property functions to meet the needs of the department and enable our people to deliver the government’s agenda in a safe, diverse and inclusive environment. We are also the centre of how and where people work, as we’re embarking on a place-based approach to staff needs and requirements. Fostering a sense of connection, no matter where staff are based, is key to this initiative. Our branch functions include leasing, strategy, operations and projects. The opportunity Whether you’re an experienced APS professional or looking to start out in your APS career, we are seeking an experienced Property leasing officer to drive property outcomes for the department. Through helping to arrange and oversee the negotiation of new lease agreements, lease renewals and MoU variations, you will play an important part in the future of how and where we work. Work independently or when managing complex or difficult issues, under limited guidance, using discretion and judgement to escalate issues as appropriate. Lead successful projects from conception to completion Build productive and lasting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders Effectively negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders including our Senior Executive stakeholders. What you will do The Assistant manager leasing and property will lead a small team: Providing support and subject matter expertise to the Manager Property Leasing on property and leasing related matters impacting the department. Coordinating with the department's outsourced Property Service Provider (PSP) and oversee the negotiation of new lease agreements, lease renewals and MoU variations. Preparing decision briefs in support of leasing commitments. Financial reporting and budgeting; and coordination of the leasing register and critical dates schedule. Interpreting legal documents such as leases, licences, contracts and MoU's to ensure the department meets all lease obligations. Developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders including commercial landlords, PSP and other Commonwealth departments. Eligibility To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens. Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level. Notes The role will require the successful candidate to travel interstate as required. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
