Role The assistant principal reports directly to the principal. Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising this responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff within their area of designated responsibility, in alignment with the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. The management of significant school program or functional areas involves assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students. Typically, assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilizing these resources. Responsibilities The responsibilities of this position will be: Implementing a consistent approach to engagement and wellbeing across the campus in line with the college and departmental engagement and wellbeing policies. Implementing the college School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPBS) curriculum, processes and framework at a campus level. Overseeing student attendance and connectedness to school at a campus level. Implementing our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships framework. Implementing focus group/mentor curriculum across Years 7 to 9 at the East Keilor campus. Ensuring key processes linked to managing our positive behaviour expectations and approach to bullying prevention are consistent across the school. Implementation of student engagement and incursion activities including Year level camps, Year level excursions and incursions, Year level assemblies and other activities including extra-curricular activities to ensure a consistent approach across the school. Providing student support that aligns to consistent school-wide practices, including behaviour (including GPA reporting/tracking), attendance and other wellbeing supports required to best support all students at Essendon Keilor College. Supporting the campus management at the Niddrie and East Keilor campuses as required and directed by the Middle Years Campus Principal. Overseeing the Year 6 to 7 and 9 to 10 transition programs in consultation with our Transition and Pathways leader and Campus Principal, focusing on internal data sharing and pathways planning activities. Implementing the Disability Inclusion reforms across the college, including professional learning for staff, embedding the practice of classroom adjustments to support student needs, implementation of support programs, centralizing information collection and sharing, and funding reviews for all students who require funding. Providing classroom support across the middle years, including overseeing all SSG requirements for both funded and non-funded students and coordinating the learning support programs for the Integration team, supported by the Inclusion Leading Teacher and Niddrie Campus Assistant Principal. VIT LANTITE To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class, a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. Additionally, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
