In this role, you'll support the Municipal Building Surveyor by managing building enforcement activities and cases, ensuring compliance with Council’s systems, record-keeping protocols, applicable legislation, and the industry code of conduct. What you will bring to the role You are a motivated and adaptable Building Inspector who thrives in a fast-paced enforcement environment. As a self-starter and collaborative team player, you’ll work closely with colleagues, other Council departments, government agencies, and the community to deliver solutions that prioritise safety and compliance in a practical and supportive manner under the direction of the Municipal Building Surveyor. You’ll bring a strong customer service mindset, a friendly and approachable demeanour, and the professionalism needed to navigate the challenges of enforcement. We’re looking for someone with integrity, resilience, and a genuine commitment to ensuring community safety. To be successful in this role you will have: strong problem solving, stakeholder engagement and dispute resolution skills exceptional organisational, written communication and recordkeeping abilities the ability to balance competing work demands effectively while maintaining high standards Key selection criteriaMandatory qualifications, experience and requirements Victorian Registered Building Inspector. Minimum 2 years Building Inspection experience. Minimum 2 Years Local Government Building Services experience including Report and Consent, Pool Compliance, Place of Public Entertainment, customer request management, enforcement inspections. A current Working With Children Check You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia. Desirable qualifications and experience Experience with regional/rural and coastal property concerns highly desirable. Experience with Salesforce and Greenlight highly desirable.
